Why NDCs, not drug names
A single drug can have many NDCs across manufacturers, strengths, and package sizes. Using the NDC makes the list precise: a specific packaged product is on the list, not a whole drug class.
How matching works
- NDCs are compared in canonical 11-digit form.
- A 10-digit NDC is padded to 11 based on its segment layout (for example 4-4-2, 5-3-2, or 5-4-1).
- Unhyphenated codes are checked against common variants, so a match is found either way.
